(Trois-Rivieres, Canada) Recently, Troy Castaneda stepped foot, for the first time, in a Porsche Cup Car with Pfaff/ Alegra Motorsports in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada. A last minute call took Troy from Rocklin, CA all the way to the East coast of Canada to get back behind the wheel after an 8 month dry spell to race in the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres, (GP3R). The Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin will be contested exclusively in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car – one of the world’s most successful race cars. Developed for Porsche one-make cups worldwide, the 911 GT3 Cup car is based on the production 911 GT3 RS road car. Its engine is largely identical to the production engine of the 911 GT3 RS, with the same output of 450 bhp and the same maximum engine speed of 8,500 rpm.
Troy Castaneda could have pouted. He could have donated his helmet and fire suit to a needy driver and started a new chapter in his life.
Castaneda’s racing career, which started with karting championships, stalled and seemed all but dead last year when the 23-year-old from Rocklin didn’t mesh with Bryan Herta Autosport’s Indy Lights team.
