Jun 17 - Last weekend Troy Castaneda competed in the third and fourth rounds of the Rotax Pan American Challenge in New Castle, Indiana. This was Troy’s first time at the New Castle Motorsports Park, but it didn’t take long for him to show that he was going to be competitive. With the weather changing almost every hour, the final practice session before Saturday’s qualifying was in rain. Troy was first on the time sheets by .5 seconds after the first two drivers had been disqualified due to running improper tires. By the time qualifying rolled around the track had dried. At the end of the 15 minutes, Troy was 7th. Having a clean start in the pre-final, Troy set his eyes towards the front. Unfortunately, he would end up battling the entire race and by the checkered flag finished 8th. Hoping for a better finish in the main, Castaneda once again had a clean start and began to work his way up the field. Unfortunately, he just didn’t have the power to get around the drivers in front. At the end of the main event, Troy finished 6th.

Heavy down pour covered all of Saturday’s racing which would make for some interesting racing. Castaneda’s morning started out the day by qualifying in second place. At the start of the pre-final, Troy slotted into second position with the rain coming down strong. The leader began to pull away in the first few laps, but Troy reeled him back in once he got into his rhythm. In an attempt to maintain the lead, the driver in first cut the track. However, Castaneda was still gaining on every lap. Troy was now within a few kart lengths and the leader cut the track again, but this time Troy was able to beat the other driver to his “re-entry” point on the track and take over the lead. On the next corner Troy lost the lead as the other driver made the pass. On the exit of the corner Castaneda got a little sideways and the leader pulled away. With only a few laps left, the order would not change.
