Troy Takes Podium Finish to Retain Championship Lead

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

(Dixon, CA) Castaneda finishes third in 8th round of the Northern California Rotax Challenge Championship. Having an issue with his transponder, Troy started the pre-final in 6th position. At the wave of the green flag, TC had an excellent start and exiting turn one he came out in third. Setting fast lap after fast lap, Troy chased down second place. On the narrow and windy Dixon track layout, passing is very difficult. With only 3 laps to go, Castaneda got a great run out of the last corner and tucked behind the second place driver. Entering into the fast turn one, Troy dove into the inside and managed to take the position. Quickly opening up the gap, TC began to reel-in the leader lapping almost half a second faster. Unfortunately, time ran out and Castaneda had to settle for second place.

Now starting on the front row for the main event, Troy was in a good position for the race win. At the start of the race, the front drivers were all even going into turn one. The inside row was a little too ambitious and carried way too much speed going into turn one. Troy got the short end of the draw as the 3rd place driver made contact with him and sent him wide causing Castaneda to drop back to 5th. Quickly putting the incident behind him, Troy began charging to the front. Establishing himself as the quickest driver in the field, TC put the pressure on for second place. It seemed as though the second place driver had an extremely wide rear bumper, as he blocked Troy at every corner on the track. Nonetheless, Castaneda took the checkered flag in third place whilst setting the fast lap of the race.

Troy enters the final two rounds of the NorCal Rotax Max Challenge on top of the point standings. The next race will take place at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma California on Saturday, October 24.
