TC Takes Convincing Win in Final Round of the NCRMC Championship
Monday, November 9th, 2009This past weekend concluded an exciting season to the Northern California Rotax Max Challenge Championship in Dixon, CA. Nineteen year old Troy Castaneda finished off the season in the best way possible by qualifying on pole, finishing first in both the heat race and the main event.
The weather could not have been any better, clear skies with a slight breeze. With the unique green, white, checkered qualifying format a driver must not make any mistakes as track time is very limited. Troy was able to qualify on pole by .3 tenths of a second. Starting on the inside front row, Castaneda was on the preferred line and got away cleanly to open up a gap setting the fastest lap in the process taking the win. Once again for the start of the main event, Troy got the jump and headed in to the fast turn one in the lead. From that point on, he put his head down and began lapping the most consistent and fastest laps we had seen all day.
With that, Castaneda took his 8th win of the season in the 10 round Championship, making him the 2009 Northern California Rotax Champion.
“This has been quite a season,” says Castaneda. “This year has gone by very quickly and I enjoyed every moment of it. This all would not have been possible if it wasn’t for Gary Scharlach and April Phillips Design Works. A big thank you to them! I would also like to give a big thanks to Marin Karting, especially Kris Shaw. With all of his experience, he always does great motor work and it shows! I’d also like to thank Bariani Olive Oil, Infinity Karting and Mtrsprt.com. Without the support of all these people and companies, this Championship would not have been feasible. Thank you to everybody for all of your support!”
The 2009 NorCal Rotax Championship maybe be over, but Troy still has some racing left on his plate with the biggest race of the season soon to come. TC will be traveling to Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt December 3-12 to compete in the Rotax World Finals. This will be Troy’s first time competing in the Rotax World Finals and he is planning to make the most of it.
“I’m really looking forward to competing in Egypt! This will be the chance of a lifetime. The second half of the season has gone very well, especially since I started working with Diego Valverde. He has really helped me become a better driver. He is very knowledgeable and we work well together so it’s natural that we will be working together in Egypt. So another big thanks to Diego! I will be on track and in the gym as much as I can to prepare myself as best as possible.”
