Solid Points Weekend for Castaneda in New Castle
Thursday, June 17th, 2010Last weekend Troy Castaneda competed in the third and fourth rounds of the Rotax Pan American Challenge in New Castle, Indiana.
This was Troy’s first time at the New Castle Motorsports Park, but it didn’t take long for him to show that he was going to be competitive. With the weather changing almost every hour, the final practice session before Saturday’s qualifying was in rain. Troy was first on the time sheets by .5 seconds after the first two drivers had been disqualified due to running improper tires. By the time qualifying rolled around the track had dried. At the end of the 15 minutes, Troy was 7th. Having a clean start in the pre-final, Troy set his eyes towards the front. Unfortunately, he would end up battling the entire race and by the checkered flag finished 8th. Hoping for a better finish in the main, Castaneda once again had a clean start and began to work his way up the field. Unfortunately, he just didn’t have the power to get around the drivers in front. At the end of the main event, Troy finished 6th.
Sunday was a new day and Troy was looking to capitalize on the fresh start. Qualifying 8th, he was going to have some work to do to move to the front. At the end of the pre-final, he would remain in the same position. Unfortunately, Sunday’s main event would end with the same results.
“This weekend was a bit frustrating to be honest,” said Troy. “We know we are quick, but we just had some minor motor issues that didn’t allow us to show all that we are capable of. We were very fast in the rain, but when it came to the dry and had to put the power down, it unfortunately just wasn’t there. Nonetheless, it’s the Championship title we are aiming for and we are only halfway through the season. I’m looking forward to Florida!”
Castaneda currently sits 3rd in the Championship only 4 points away from the leader. The next round of the Pan American Challenge is August 20-22 in Homestead, Florida.
Troy is supported by SSC Racing West, special thanks to Joe Ramos, James Perez and Patrick Stevenson. Special thanks to Troy’s mechanic and tuner Diego Valverde.
